My websites are here to share information about me and my research. My passion is family history research and sharing that passion with others! I love the “hunt” and the detective work it entails. I’ve visited many large and small-town libraries and courthouses over the years, to try to document my family and their history. I’ve corresponded with a lot of cousins along the way, and that is by far the most gratifying of all.

As I go about my day-to-day activities, I often think of the hardships that my ancestors endured — sailing for a new world on a small, overcrowded ship for weeks on end; plowing fields with only horse-drawn plows; cooking over hot fireplaces with long dresses on to prepare daily meals; raising many, many children with no “modern” conveniences; and moving from state to state by wagons to try to improve their lives and those of their children. My admiration for my strong-willed and brave ancestors is matched by my desire to tell their story.

I love teaching others how to research their family history and to document that history in scrapbooks and stories.

If you find a family connection, have a question, or would like me to present a program or teach a class to a group, please contact me — Elaine Hatfield Powell, by commenting on this post.

”As you look toward the future, always remember the treasures of our past. Every generation stands on the shoulders of the generations that came before. Guard the values and principles of our heritage. They did not come easy.” – Ronald Reagan
