Is anyone in this family group participating in a DNA Surname Project? My maiden name is Waren. My Dad is a participant. Our earlist known ancestor is Edmund Warren, b. Roane Co., TN, 22 Jan 1787. We have that his father is John Warren, b. Virginia and his father was a Thomas Warren, but we don’t have any specifics on these last 2. Family lore has a connection to General Joseph Warren. I would appreciate sharing DNA Project info with anyone who has it…to prove or disprove a connection.

  3. Hello,

I am not personally aware of any from our Waring>Warren line who have been tested. I am not in contact with any of my grandmother’s Warren cousins, so I myself have nobody to ask. I have been in contact with many from this line — one who kept the original spelling of Waring, and some who have some of the other spellings (Wearen, Waren) as well, so it would be quite interesting if we could get some of them to get tested. I looked at the Warren DNA results webpage and did not recognize any names from our line. From now on when a cousin contacts me, I will encourage them to get tested.

If indeed your ancestor is General Joseph Warren, then your line is NOT our line, as General Warren descended from the Mayflower passenger Richard Warren (c 1580-1628), and is a descendant of Nathaniel Warren. See this website for Warren descendants: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sam/warren.html

Our line descends from Richard WARING (1615-1670) who married Elizabeth Ivatt.

Hello! I found your www while doing research online… We are related via Ashley Gulley- his wife, Sarelda Davidson, is my relation (1st cousin 4 times removed)… I actually was wondering if you are familiar with a Linsey Gulley of KY also?Being that both Gulley men wed Davidson women in my family, I suspect they are related.

I do not have a lot of info on my Gulley and Warren ties and would love more! I can also give you info if you would like. Its always great to meet family :-) Hope to hear from you, Dolores

  5. Hi Dolores! It’s always good to hear from a cousin. As you know, Ashley’s maternal grandfather was Jacob Wearen (Waren). I am descended from Jacob’s son John (b. 1755 in Greenbrier Co., VA and died 1815 in Garrard Co., KY).
I do have Ashley Gully in my file, as follows:

    1 Drury Gully b: Abt. 1774
    .. +Hannah Wearen b: 1777 in Greenbrier County, Virginia m: 24 Jan 1795 d: Bef. 1860 in Garrard, KY
    ….. 2 Ashley Gully
    ….. 2 Elizabeth Gully
    ……… +? Hardin
    ….. 2 Dicy Gully
    ……… +William Mary
    ….. 2 John Will Gully
    ….. 2 Emily Gully
    ….. 2 Orleana Gully
    ….. 2 Jane Gully
    ……… +Frederick Sagecy
    ….. 2 America Gully
    ……… +David May
    ….. 2 Malinda Gully
    ……… +Robert Knight
    ….. 2 Mary Gully
    ……… +Eli Green
    ….. 2 Thomas Gully b: 1795
    ….. 2 Griffin Gully b: 1808

I do no have any descendants listed for any of the children of Drury, and I do not have Linsey Gulley. How does Linsey fit into the family?
I would love to have a complete listing of all of Drury’s descendants. Do you have more info? If I had locations for his children, I could do more research.
Please email me directly at Elaine64@aol.com to share more info.
    Regards,
    Elaine

For several years, I have been trying to establish Richard Waring as an ancestor with the Colonial Dames XVII Century.
The Colonial Dames XVII Century would very much appreciate a donated copy of AN AMERICAN FAMILY CALLED WARREN. At present the CD genealogist must request a microfishe copy of the book from FHL.
Do you have any idea where a copy may be located?
    Thank you.
