Elaine Vance: This is what I have regarding Abner Vance's property: On
October 20, 1796, Richard and Priscilla Price sold Abner Vance a 45 acre
tract of land on the north side of the Clinch River. Three years later,
Abner and Susanna deeded the same tract of land to David Black. On August
25, 1801, the Vances bought an 18 acre tract from Henry and Mary Smith.
The land was on the south side of Clinch River at Dickensons Ford and the
base of Kents Ridge. On April 3, 1806, Abner Vance entered 25 acres of
land which was part of Land Office Treasury Warrant No. 1855 dated March
18, 1796. The tract lay on both sides of the Levisa Fork of Sandy River.
The improvements and house where Vance had formerly lived were included.
The land was in what is now Buchanan County, but was then included in
Russell. On March 8, 1816, Abner Vance withdrew his entry of the 25 acres
made April 3, 1806.

Elaine Vance: I found my directions to the farm where Abner is buried.
When you get to Raven, Va, take route 67 South toward Swords Creek and
Honaker. You will find the intersection of 460 business and Route 67
right in the middle of Raven, the intersection is right in front of the
Raven Drug Company and beside of the Raven Supermarket, (Ace Hardware).
Take 67 South up the hill. Right on top of the hill on the right is the
F&M convenient store. Just past the F&M on the LEFT is the turn you are
looking for. (It may even be unmarked or just have a number.) At any
rate, it I the first left turn after getting on route 67. It s just a
small road. Take this road, there will be a Y in the road after about 300
feet. Stay left. (There is a left turn before the Y. Do NOT take the left
turn before the Y. Follow this road about a half mile, give or take a
couple of tenths. There will be a sharp turn to the right, and right in
the turn is a road going to the left toward the river. Take this turn.
This goes don beside of the railroad tracks and the coal storage
facility. This was also part of the old Vance Farm. Dickerson Ford is
located just to the left after you turn off onto this road. Abner's home
sat right up on the hill above the paved road straight across from
Dickerson Ford. Abner's gravesite is about 3 to 4 10ths of a mile from
Dieckerson Ford down the river, (south).
