Wood, 12th January, 1746, adjoining Francis Betty. Teste: James Patton,
Jno. Buchanan, Charles Campbell. Proved, 19th November, 1747, by James
Patton and Chas. Camell. (Note: Ephraim's surname was left off the
Chalkley's record, but it is identified easily with the disposition to
James Nealey in 1749, listed below).

? Col. Ephraim Vause of Ft. Vause
For the protection of his family and his neighbors, Col. Ephraim Vause
built a simple fort nearby on his farm. In June 1756, during the French
and Indian War, Indians attacked and burned down his fort, killing
several settlers and taking many prisoner. An account of this can be
