PIONEER RESIDENT W.R. HATFIELD CLAIMED BY DEATH
William R. Hatfield, 74, died suddenly of a heart attack about 9:30
o'clock Wednesday morning, March 15.
A retired farmer, he came to Buhl in November 1908, from Beaver City,
Nebraska and farmed here until 1937.
Born at Rushville, Illinois, on April 26, 1875, he was married to Selma
Swanson in Buhl on April 20, 1909.
She predede him in death on August 5, 1935, and he was married to Lucy
Mintun in Buhl, on September 12,
1939.
Mr. Hatfield was very active in the community and at the time of his
death was a director of the Farmers
National Bank, serving as a chairman of the board; director of the Twin
Falls Canal company;, of which he
had been a member for 25 years and had served as chairman of that board.
He was a charter member and director of the Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance
company, carter member of the
Buhl Kiwanis club and active member, having served as director, and
served on the Buhl school board for 25
years. Hatfield was also a member of the Modern Woodman lodge and the
Buhl Methodist church.
Surviving are four sons, Harold Hatfield of Hermosa Beach, California;
Henry Hatfield, Raymond Hatfield
and William Hatfield, jr., all of Buhl; one daughter, Mrs Myna Hayward of
Idaho Falls, three stepchildren,
Williard Mintun of Portland Oregon, Orville Mintun of Denver, Colorado,
MNrs. Mary Daiss of
Buhl; three sisters, Mrs. Rose Beall of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs Sarah
Olmstead of Seatle, Washington and
Mrs. Lois Knier of Urbana, Illinois and fourteen grandchildren.
